Richmond Hill

21st Bee City is engaging residents, increasing the use of native plants in town landscaping.

In recent years, Richmond Hill has gained traction in identifying and tackling pollinator-related issues. In 2022, Richmond Hill maintained the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and Bee City designation. Through this designation, the City has been exposed to a large connected network of Bee Cities, gaining access to free webinars where various groups and government agencies share knowledge and experience related to this topic.

The designation is well received by the residents of Richmond Hill which guides pollinator-oriented initiatives in our community and gain support from Council. Having the Bee City designation has expanded the scope of our initiatives that focus on showcasing the importance of pollinators in the City. We have also developed new partnerships with corporations to add to our efforts. Being part of this designation inspires the City of Richmond Hill to review ongoing pollinator-related activities and establish a work plan that implement innovative projects to increase and improve pollinator habitats through different teams of the City.

Communication outreach initiatives were less limited in 2022 as many COVID pandemic restrictions eased. As such, the City has been able to begin initiating many programs that were modified and start planning for 2023 events and projects.
