Mount Albert Public School would like to become a Bee School to continue to develop our capacity to teach and learn about the importance of pollinators and what we can do to support pollinator populations. Our Eco Club is dedicated to educating other students about how pollinators are essential for our food sources and inspiring a new appreciation for bees, butterflies, bats, and birds.
In our work as an Eco team, we are focusing much of our attention on greening initiatives, educating students about the importance of pollinators, and exploring ways that we can make a difference both at school and in the larger community.
Currently, we are working to expand our pollinator gardens to new locations on our school property with annual plants and flowers. We have an existing native plant garden that we plan to maintain and expand, including (and prioritizing) planting additional milkweed plants.
We plan to educate students about the importance of pollinator plants, especially with regards to our food sources. We are thinking of ways to help pollinators and making plans to execute those ideas, including building bee hotels.
