Class 61 thinks it’s important to become a Bee School because we want to bring change to this world. As “Agents of Change” and the ones who are the future, we want the future to be a good place, not only for us but for all generations to come. We have dreams and we want to live them. When people look at us, they may think, “how can a bunch of eleven-year old’s make a difference to the world?” Us kids can do something even if it is as little as planting a flower which can bloom its petals for a better future. Our help is needed today and now! We here at Humber Summit M.S. are proud to already be an Eco School and are looking forward to becoming a Bee School as well. We have already begun to bring change to our school by creating an outdoor classroom, having a water refill station, and etc. The bottom line is that virtually all of the world’s seed plants need to be pollinated, therefore, we must ensure our pollinators are well protected and cared for.
Seeing that Climate Change is first in the top ten world issues, we can now tell that it’s getting worse day by day and that we need to take action now before it’s too late and our only home gets destroyed. Mother Earth has given us so much for the past hundreds of years, now it’s time for us to give to give back. Pollinators hold up the ecosystem, and most vitamin and mineral rich foods rely on insect pollination, and without them, we could be vulnerable to life threatening and fatal diseases such as cancer and heart diseases. As a school community, it’s our duty to plant the seed of a child’s future and help them grow. As a result of Climate Change, children may not even have a future to grow to. As “Agents of Change”, we want to make a difference, not only for us, but for everyone, including Mother Earth. It’s our time to act, as we can no longer sit around and watch our selfishness destroy Mother Earth. There is no doubt that Humber Summit M.S. along with all schools should join hands and become Bee City Schools. We hope that with our participation, other neighboring and TOSS schools will do the same. TOSS already has a Climate Change Action Plan, so why not join in and advocate for our ‘buzzing friends’.
