Augusta Township is very excited to become the 40th municipality in Canada to join the Bee City Program. We recognize that increasing opportunities for pollinators will make our community more colourful, vibrant, sustainable, and both agriculturally and economically productive. Agriculture has been a pillar of our local economy for more than two centuries, and pollinator promotion programs will help ensure that agriculture remains strong in Augusta for generations to come.
With our newly-approved Pollinator Promotion Program, beekeepers will be maintaining hives on different Township properties to encourage greater pollination across our municipality, which will be benefit our agricultural sector and community members at large. A new conservation area is being set up in Augusta Township. We are also working on programs to encourage more community gardening and to reduce the use of pesticides.
