Georgian College
The college recently signed the SDG Accord (https://www.sdgaccord.org/). The signing of this accord committed the college to make tangible changes to its operations and its impact on the environment. Simultaneously Georgian is exploring the delivery of more programming in agriculture, especially in the areas of sustainable practices in agriculture.
Given these two significant milestones in the colleges position on milestones it is not surprising that it is recognized that pollinators provide many beneficial ecological services, such as removing contaminants from water, producing oxygen, limiting soil erosion, producing soil nutrients, and sequestering carbon.
and have a crucial and increasing role in the food production process. As an educational institution, it is important for us to be at the forefront promoting awareness and education to our students.
Additionally, Georgian College is the only college is Canada to be designated as a changemaker college by Ashoka U. The designation recognizes colleges and universities around the world that have embedded social innovation as a core value, and showcases the ways in which they have built supportive environments for changemaking across their institutions.
Given the threatened state of pollinators and their habitats, it is the responsibility of educational institutions to promote awareness on these issues and to motivate students to work towards solutions to ameliorate this situation.
